New flash fiction incoming!

From tomorrow, I'm posting a new flash fiction every day until Halloween; 31 bitesize brainsnacks of macabre weirdness - ideal for your loo/cig/sarnie break, but even better for that bedtime hour when spiders come in from the cold to leave their babies in your slippers. You can catch them via twitter @garethdurasow

In other news

Had a great time at Cafe Lux last night! Big thanks to A Firm of Poets and the lovely audience. My only regret is not having had more copies of Endless Running Games to take with me. But the reason for that is WE HAVEN'T LAUNCHED THE BOOK YET! However, we will be launching it very soon; Sunday 19th July at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds. Kickoff is 2pm with free admission. There's going to be lots going on - I'll be joined by fellow Huddersfield poet and editor of ERGs, Adam Strickson, and the chap behind the cover illustration, Mike Barrett. He and I will showcasing our collaboration, featuring his formidable artistic talent and my words. You'll also be able to get a copy of the book (with my childish handwriting on the title page, if you wish)! For more info about the launch, try here. Also, if you're interested in some of the ideas that went into the book, have a read of my article on the Big Bookend website - 'On Writing for the Xbox Generation'.

Collaboration with Emelbi

Had the pleasure of working with Mike Barrett at the weekend on a new project. Mike is the man behind the cover illustration for Endless Running Games and has lent his creative talents to a series of images inspired by lines from the collection. We spent the evening mapping out ideas for a sequence that will go on display at the book launch on the 19th July. If you're quick about getting there, you'll be able to pick up some of the images as well as a copy of the book. The idea is to combine fragments of my texts with his quirky and (at times) grotesque style to create some evocative backdrops to the gig that you won't forget in a hurry. If you want to know more about Emelbi and get an idea of the kind of work that's heading your way at Outlaws Yacht Club, then here's the website.

A Firm of Poets present Poetry & A Pint featuring me!

Hi folks! I'll have the pleasure of reading at A Firm of Poets' next Poetry & A Pint. It'll be on the 9th July at Café Lux in Pudsey. The event will be all the more special because hosting duties go to Matthew Hedley Stoppard, who's been a champion of my work for a long time - so it's really fitting that this should be the first time I read from the book in public. If you'd like to know more about the event, then click here.

It would be great to see you there - let's pack the place to the rafters!

Richard Smyth & A J Kirby

Hi folks - looking forward to attending the conversation between Richard "Wild Ink" Smyth and A J "Perfect World" Kirby tomorrow, courtesy of the Big Bookend and Central Library. They'll be discussing "what the current topography of the Leeds writing scene might be, and whether the city might be putting itself back on the literary map". I'm sure it'll be an engaging (and possibly contentious) discussion - that is if Richard's previous exchanges are anything to go by. It's a free event but if you want to be sure of a seat, you should sign up here.

About that cover

Hi folks - a quick note about the cover of Endless Running Games. It was created by the artist and gentleman, Mike Barrett (or Emelbi). You can find his website here. He's a man of many talents; digital artist, photographer, storyteller, juggler, and the kind of guy who brings a guitar to your party (in a good way). If you want some art for the terminally blank space on your wall, then buy his; it'll get people talking, and let's face it - that's the main reason why we buy art and put it on our walls ;)
